18th Century Men's Shirt PatternPattern includes sizes for 13 1/2" - 17 1/2" neck
and has complete step-by-step cutting & sewing instructions
and illustrations to make a
custom fitted shirt for short, average or tall men with individual sleeve length.
This pattern does not include paper pieces like modern patterns, but includes a chart and sizing information to cut the pieces (squares & rectangles) necessary to make the shirt as did the original patterns in the 18th century. It is very easy to use.
Shirt pattern is based on an officer's shirt displayed
at the Smithsonian Institute in a display of military clothing from the American Revolution
through the War of 1812.
This type and style of shirt is also correct for the
French & Indian War time period if made in a
longer (mid-thigh) length.
The original was made of white linen with bone buttons, but this shirt looks great sewn from woven cotton homespun plaids, linen, light weight wool,
or Osnaburg Cotton with buttons made from
pewter, bone, brass, wood or horn.
