JAMES D. WATSON. Early typed letter signed by James D. Watson on February 8, 1962 exactly ten months before he, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine for the discovery of the structure of DNA.
EARLY TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY JAMES D. WATSON EXACTLY TEN MONTHS BEFORE HE WAS AWARDED THE 1962 NOBEL PRIZE FOR PHYSIOLOGY AND MEDICINE FOR THE DISCOVERY OF THE STRUCTURE OF DNA
During his tenure as a Harvard University biology professor, Watson notifies a possible applicant that that there is still enough time to apply to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Harvard: “Dear Mr. Lovinger: Dr. Bloch has referred your recent letter to me, as I am now Chairman of the Committee on Higher Degrees in Biochemistry. Although the deadline for submitting applications for 1962-63 was February 1, the Graduate School has been asked to send you a catalogue and application forms for admission and for financial aid. If these are given your immediate attention, they may be received in time for consideration by the Committee. If you have any further questions, I will be glad to help you with them. Yours sincerely, J.D. Watson”. The letter is one page, measures octavo, on Harvard University Biological Laboratories stationery, sent from Cambridge, MA, accompanied with the original mailing envelope, and in overall fine condition.
