(1901-1966).  Whinfield was a British chemist who created the first polyester fiber, known as Dacron.

“It was so kind of you to invite me to your house last week and I would like you to know how very much I enjoyed the evening.  As to the baseball, I think it would be as easy to discover another…as to understand the intricacies of the game: but we enjoyed this very much too.  Will you accept…a tie for your husband and hope he will -in perhaps more important than you will, approve of the design…”
