In 1853, Daniel Straub and the brothers, Louis and Friedrich Schweizer established the Straub & Schweizer metal works in Geislingen an der Steigen in Germany. Their silver-plated tableware and serving dishes were awarded a medal of distinction at the world exhibition in London. They eventually merged with Ritter & Co (a producer of high end luxury items) in 1880. Ritter and Company dipped pieces into a bath of silver with an electric current that produced pieces that were finely and evenly layered in silver. This method was called ‘Galvanisation’ and allowed intricate and complex pieces to be plated.
After facing financial problems, they joined with the Wurttemberg Union Bank and the company was renamed “WMF” (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) in 1880. Their growth was substantial after the merger.
The “M” after WMF was a code for “Messing”, which means “Brass” in German and this stamp is associated with the years of production between the years of 1886-1903.

About the Inventory

Listing Descriptions
A large quantity of time is spent researching items using books, online tools, and through field experts. Descriptions are made as accurate as possible. Some vintage and antique items are rare or hard to find and there may not be much information available. Listing Photos
All photos within each listing are taken by me personally, unless specified within the item description. There are a variety of styles of photos that have been taken. I am continuously finding ways to improve the quality of photos for customers to have the best view or ideas for usage. As with many photos, colors may not be exact, but I try to ensure the lighting provides as true to color as possible.
Packaging
Recycled materials will be used to package all items. Boxes may be new through USPS or if USPS does not offer a certain sized box to fit your item, a recycled box will be used. Some recycled boxes may be turned inside out. Recycled boxes may have been previously used for food, pets, and other items. At times, boxes may be reconstructed due to no availability of a certain sized box.
Recycled newspaper, tissue paper, pieces of cardboard, plastic air bag packing, plastic bags, paper bags, and other items may be used in packaging items.
Shipping/Delivery
I take great care in packaging each item. USPS Priority Mail is the source of shipping used due to the reliability, insurance, and tracking services offered. Returns are not accepted unless I have made an error within the purchase, shipping, and delivery process.
Shipping costs...
are calculated automatically through the eBay shipping tool. This tool collects the weight and dimensions of the entire package (item, packing materials, box) as well as the customer's address information and automatically provides the shipping cost. These costs are not adjustable unless a shipping discount is provided through my consent.
Damaged Items...
have rarely occurred but can happen through USPS even when the item is packaged well and securely. If damage occurs, customers must hold onto the item and provide pictures to me through the eBay messenger tool.  These pictures should include the packaging in which the item arrived, multiple views of the damaged item, as well as a description of the damage.  I will file a claim to determine any refund and return shipment processes.
Lost Packages...
have rarely occurred but can happen through USPS even with tracking. Please notify me immediately if your package has not been received by the estimated delivery date. I will assist in tracking the package and providing notifications to you.
