That means they are not brand new from the manufacturer.  Most of my "new" patterns are in new condition, however some have minor tears to the envelopes (Major tears are noted) other slight damage / dirt / staining / etc... Expected wear after being moved around for 15 years. The patterns themselves are uncut and factory folded.
