VINTAGE POLITICAL CAMPAIGN ITEM!
Authentic and Original!
Scarce Strom Thurmond pin from his first race as a Republican. Thurmond
was a life-long Democrat who switched parties in the mid-1960s. This 1966
pin is from his first race for U.S. Senate as a Republican and includes
other statewide GOP candidates, including gubernatorial candidate Joseph Rogers.
Other candidates listed are:
Marshall Parker
- candidate for Senator
(Parker did not challenge Thurmond in the Republican primary but instead
attempted in a special election for a two-year term to succeed former
Senator Olin D. Johnston, who died in office in 1965.
